McKenzie Bench

Featured in the WantedDesign Exhibit 2022

The McKenzie bench was designed to bring back a lively feeling to Blue River Park, which has been severely impacted by wildfires. The bench’s sheet metal base features a perforated pattern that allows light to pass through. The base is powder coated in blue, which accentuates the perforations. Overtime, moss will grow on the side recesses and the oak boards will develop a patina, adding a comforting natural quality to the Mckenzie Bench.

This was a group project made in collaboration with my classmate Kei Kort, and all major design decisions were made as a team. For individual work, I focused on prototyping in chipboard, metal and wood, drawings, the BOM, ergonomic research and measurements. Kei did the CAD work, including the renderings, and SolidWorks drawings pictured here, as well as laser cutting on the full scale model.
